Amanda J. Pierz (she/her, what’s this?)

Amanda J. Pierz, PhD, MSc, is a global health researcher, educator, and applied qualitative methodologist whose work sits at the intersection of sexual health and HIV & violence prevention. Dr. Pierz is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, focused on HIV prevention among adolescents and young adults in the Bronx. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at York College and CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (SPH), where she co-directs the Community Health Practice Collaborative fieldwork and capstone program. She earned a PhD in Public Health at CUNY SPH, a MSc in Global Health from Maastricht University, and a BS in Public Health from Rutgers University – New Brunswick.

Her research utilized mixed and qualitative methods to examine the structural and psychosocial drivers of sexual and reproductive health, with specific research interests in sexuality and related stigma, childhood sexual violence, and HIV and HPV-related outcomes in global and U.S. contexts. Dr. Pierz has led and contributed to multidisciplinary research and implementation projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (US), Centers for Disease Control (US), World Health Organization, Merck, Gilead Sciences, and the Oak Foundation, including global initiatives supporting maternal and newborn health monitoring and the co-creation of a sector-wide strategy to end childhood sexual violence. She is an Editorial Board Member at BMC Women’s Health and has been published in peer-reviewed journals including BMC Health Services Research, Vaccine, Child Protection and Practice, and Frontiers in Reproductive Health, and has extensive experience collaborating with academic, policy, and community-based partners globally and in the US.
